Frequently Asked Questions

  • Kids develop at different rates. As long as your kid is responsive, has a certain level of body awareness, and can take instruction, we invite you in to check out a free trial class. We typically see these characteristics in children +5, but come by and let’s chat!

  • Absolutely not. We recommend every athlete start with classes to gain a foundation in movement. Many students take class regularly without additional commitment. If, however, your child DOES want to compete, we would love to help develop them as well.

  • For Hip Hop, we recommend loose fitting clothes and some sneakers. Come comfortable and ready to move.

    For lyrical/jazz/contempt, we recommend tights or leggings so help see body lines.

  • Absolutely! We have seating downstairs and a lounge area in the loft. Feel free to wait inside and support your athlete.

    We just ask that you are respectful of the class and not distracting.

  • Normal classes duing the week require no additional involvement beyond pick up and drop off. We do ask that parents who have athletes competing with Portal to be involved and present during travel weekends.

    We find that a partnership between coaches and parents reinforces good habits and long term success.

  • The short answer is yes, you can take photos/videos of your child. We do ask you to be considerate of other dancers in the background and their privacy. There will be times when no media will be allowed. These instances may include masterclass workshops, rehearsals, and competition prep.

    It’s best practice to tag or mention the choreographer/teacher and studio to help spread awareness.

  • We are month to month with with packages ranging from the occassional drop in to unlimied classes. The exception is for competitive team members, where we ask for a year’s commitment. We do require a 30-day notice for full time members.

    First class is always free, so come on by!
